How the ATS score is worked out
An Applicant Tracking System (ATS) reads your resume as plain text, puts it into fields and lets recruiters search it. This checker looks at the same things:
- Can it be read? A scanned or image-only PDF has no text, so an ATS sees an empty page.
- Contact details: email, phone number and a LinkedIn link.
- Standard sections: Summary, Experience (or Projects for freshers), Education and Skills, with names an ATS knows.
- Content: a sensible length, bullet points, action words, numbers that show results, dates, and no "I" or "my".
- Keyword match: how many skills from the job description are in your resume. This is worth 25 points when you add one.
Tip: Use the same words as the job advert. If it says "Microsoft Excel", write "Microsoft Excel", not just "spreadsheets".
Questions
Is this ATS resume checker free?
Yes. It is 100% free, with no sign-up and no limit on how many resumes you check.
Is my resume uploaded anywhere?
No. Your file is read inside your own browser. It is never sent to a server.
What is a good ATS score?
80 or more is strong. 60 to 79 is good but can be improved. Below 60 means important things are missing, so fix the red points first.
Why should I add the job description?
Recruiters search the ATS for the skills in their job advert. With the job description, the checker shows which of those keywords your resume has and which are missing.
